The secondary school sent a Key Stage 3 and a Key Stage 4 team to the Spectrum in Guildford for the Surrey Special Schools Sports Association (SSSSA) Dodgeball tournament.
This is the first time our school has ever entered an official dodgeball competition and we were unsure
what to expect. What we found was a very tough series of games against schools that had far more
experience than us.
Our students battled hard through the whole day but were ultimately defeated by bigger, more
experienced opponents.
Throughout this James Blanshard, who led the group, was impressed by the attitude of both teams.
While some players were despondent at the results the vast majority of our players were able to
see that playing at this tougher level was a way of experiencing the game being played more skillfully.
They embraced the challenge and took it upon themselves to learn from their more successful
opponents. This attitude was brilliant and soon these players had picked up the mood of both teams.
James was delighted to see that over the day the team improved greatly and he was just as happy to
see that at the end of the day our players had given their all and were pleased with their efforts.
Well done to those students who took part.
