Explorer

Explorers is an informal class where we strive to support our learners to develop life long, key skills and attributes, which are built on an understanding of the child’s core needs and desires. We understand that life-long learning is more than academics, so before we consider more traditional styles of learning, we must enable them to develop other skills first. These include emotional regulation, social skills, listening, attention, tolerance of others, friendships and communication to name but a few, and this is done through our backdoor learning provision.

Explorers is a space where we show that we have respect for one another, have care and consideration for other people’s needs and feelings, and are developing an awareness of what it means to be a learner. We recognise that behaviours of concern are because of an unmet need, and we strive to understand the purpose of any behaviour of concern to enable us to support students with strategies to support them.

We strongly believe that EVERYONE has something positive to add to the world and it is our role to help every child recognise and reach their full potential; whatever their interests. Learning happens everywhere and all the time, and in Explorers we recognise that any moment can be a WOW moment, you just have to be ready to see it!
