We celebrated National Careers Week with Palace for Life

To celebrate National Careers Week students attended a workshop given by Palace for Life, a charitable foundation who work in partnership with local organisations to improve the life of young South Londoners. The workshop focused on developing communication skills. Students were tasked with planning an event with a £5,000 budget and then present their findings. All the students were engaged and came up with brilliant ideas for venues, food and entertainment – one team had the idea of hiring an ice cream van for their event.
They also made a lovely tote bags encouraging people not to use plastic. The most exciting part of the day was having a tour of the stadium. It was amazing to see the students taking on the roles of managers and players in the media centre. Students answered questions from the ‘press’. They were all very amused at the difference between the luxurious home team changing room and the cold stark room the away team changed in!
The students enjoyed the day and developed communication skills as well as learning about jobs in football. We are looking forward to working more closely with the foundation who also offer support and mentoring to young people as well as visiting the school.
