Trip to the Horniman Museum and Gardens

Hazel Class had an exciting trip to the Horniman Museum and Gardens as part of their topic, “Thank you for the music.” Pupils were fascinated by the music gallery, where they saw instruments from all around the world. They were especially excited to spot an African instrument made from walnut shells, just like the one they have in their classroom! There was plenty of hands-on fun too as pupils got the chance to play instruments such as drums, a piano, and even one that required a flip-flop to play.

In the World Gallery they explored a variety of objects from different continents. Some items were available to touch, including a sperm whale’s ear bone, a triangle, and the British Sign Language alphabet. A highlight was the impressive Lego model of the museum, which captured everyone’s attention. Pupils also had the unique opportunity to feel the inside and outside of a tortoise shell, the fur of a zebra, and the antler of a Scottish deer. After their museum adventure, Hazel Class enjoyed a class picnic and explored the gardens, spotting a variety of different plants.
