Student Led Makaton Assembly
Pupils were excited to lead an assembly on Makaton. Makaton is a visual method designed to help people communicate through images and signs. Our resident expert, Ben chose a song for us to learn and then teach to the school. Pupils shared that The Beatles, “A little help from my friends” had great lyrics to learn and sing along to. In preparation for their assembly they surveyed the school to find out how many people were familiar with Makaton and how many had learnt some already. They researched the origins of Makaton and found out who devised it and how it got its name. They them put the information into a PowerPoint presentation with a link to the song. One pupil summed up the project saying: ‘We really enjoyed working together on our assembly and I think everyone enjoyed our Beatles rendition!’
