Internet Safety Day

As part of Internet Safety Day, our pupils took part in a special BBC Live Lesson focused on staying safe, smart and kind online.

During the session, children explored:

  • How to protect personal information (such as passwords, photos and location details)
  • Why it’s important to think carefully before posting or sharing
  • How to spot unsafe or suspicious behaviour online. What to do if something online makes them feel worried, uncomfortable or unsure
  • The importance of being respectful and kind in digital spaces

The lesson reinforced that the internet is an amazing place for learning, creativity and connection, but just like in the real world, children need strategies to stay safe.

We also discussed the importance of talking to a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right. Students were reminded that they will never get into trouble for speaking up about online concerns.

How parents can support at home:

  • Have regular, open conversations about what your child does online
  • Keep devices in shared family spaces where possible
  • Review privacy settings together
  • Agree on clear boundaries around screen time and online behaviour
  • Encourage your child to tell you if they see or experience anything worrying

By working together at school and home, we can help children develop the confidence and skills they need to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
