Celebrating Black History Day

The Link celebrated Black History Day with a variety of exciting activities and performances that showcased both creativity and cultural pride. The day began with staff and

students preparing for a themed assembly where each class presented their chosen influential Black figure, including Marcus Rashford, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Trevor McDonald, Usain Bolt, Idris Elba, Benjamin Zephaniah, Yinka Shonibare, and Nelson Mandela. It was inspiring to see the hard work and enthusiasm that went into each presentation. Fuller class recited Bob Marley’s poem, Yates class performed Aretha Franklin’s Respect, and Branson class delivered a captivating performance of Casualties by Yinka Shonibare. Fuller’s rendition of Three Little Birds by Bob Marley brought everyone together in song, and Rowsell’s lively conga line had everyone dancing through the school!

Periods 5 and 6 marked the highlight of the day with The Link’s Black History Day Festival. Students and staff were treated to a wide selection of traditional foods, including jollof rice, Jamaican patties, jerk chicken, curry chicken, plantain chips, pineapple punch, and coconut water. The atmosphere was lively, with everyone enjoying the festival’s cultural richness, and it was wonderful to see so many students and staff wearing traditional clothing, which added a special touch to the event. The day was a fantastic celebration of Black history, culture, and achievements. It was a meaningful and joyful occasion that brought the community together in a shared appreciation of diversity and heritage.
