Exploring Places of Worship

For the past two weeks Wood class have been visiting places of worship during their Link Priorities lessons.
Firstly, Wood class went along to St Elphege’s RC church in Wallington. Here they met Father Wilburt and Sandra. Father Wilburt gave Wood class a tour around the church. He explained that the gowns which are used for specific services are kept downstairs. Students demonstrated exemplary behaviour and that they were able to communicate effectively with unknown adults in an unfamiliar setting. Students also demonstrated their curiosity about the Catholic faith and asked Father Wilbert some interesting and pertinent questions.

Our next visit was to a Synagogue in Bromley. The students’ behaviour was very respectful and gracious. They asked lots of different question about Judaism and Shelley our host was more than happy to explain and enlighten them.
Wood class sat in the main worship hall and listened attentively while Shelley explained the procedures of weekly service and worship. After this Wood class was led downstairs to an area designed specifically for young people to explore all aspects of the Jewish faith in more detail. They were able to try on traditional costumes as well as sit at a table to celebrate Passover. It was a very informative, fun and exciting experience where students clearly demonstrated their ability to have a good understanding of expected behaviour in contexts outside of school.
